Oh Archie, where do I begin?

Little Archie man was found on the side of the road in OHIO! Friends of friends were on their way through the state of Ohio to pick up a dog that they had gotten from a breeder, when they spotted Archie. He was about 10 weeks old and he was covered in fleas and tar, and had some abrasions on his paw pads from the hot asphalt. A woman nearby mentioned that the kitten had been there a while. These nice people contacted their friends asking them what to do, and that's when the friends contacted me! I had helped this sweet girl and her family rescue kittens from their property that they wanted to take in and adopt less than a year earlier. She messaged me asking if they were to take Archie with them on the road trip, if I would take him in when they arrived back in NY. I said ABSOLUTELY! And with that, Archie joined their road trip to pick up the puppy and arrived in NY!

Archie arrived in New York late on a Saturday night, and I went and picked him up the following day. From the second I saw him, he was nothing but a sweetheart! He was a bread-making, purring machine! He was treated for the fleas, and given many baths to get the tar off of his coat. He was doing fantastic, and was quite the social butterfly. Every person that met him fell immediately in love; even people that claimed to not be "cat people!" He won everyone over, and even loved all of my cats in my home. He became best buds with everyone, and fit right in! A few weeks later, a couple came to meet Archie and fell in love. However, a few days later, Archie wasn't himself.

I'm a vet tech, and I knew something wasn't right one day. He was still eating and purring away, but something was wrong. His eyes looked watery, and he was much quieter than usual. I rushed him to my job and it turns out that my poor baby had a 104.5 fever. After much panicking and more tests, I placed an IV catheter in my little boy's tiny leg. We started him on IV fluids, antibiotics, and immune support medications while awaiting the results to bloodwork. He stayed in a crate in my bathroom for many days on IV's, and he was such a trooper. He let me so anything I needed to do. Hi fever stayed for a good 3-4 days, and boy did it have me panicked. Who knows what this tiny baby was exposed to in Ohio on the street before his rescue?!

After a solid two weeks of medications ever few hours, and daily trips to work with mom, my boy's fever was finally a thing of the past. His bloodwork had shown a raging infection, but nothing specific. We still don't know how the infection came to be or where it stemmed from, but we did know that it was gone. It was such a relief. I needed to keep Archie longer than expected after his illness, to be sure that he was going to be okay and healthy going forward. It turns out that with the change in time frame, the timing wasn't working out with his adoptive family, and they decided to back out of adopting him.

Once I was sure that he was gaining weight and continuing to thrive, I was on the hunt for the BEST forever home for my man. He was special. He was perfect. He deserved nothing but the very best. I was determined to find that for him after all that he went through to survive.

I posted my boy on my social media platforms, and a woman contacted me that he mother would be interested. After exchanging contact information and talking some more, this woman sounded so amazing! She had a female kitten who was only three weeks older than Archie, named Sophie. She wanted Sophie to have a buddy to grow up and play with. She also had two dogs and a bird :) I knew that Archie, loving everyone, would LOVE to have all of these furry friends in a new home! The potential adopter, Gail was so excited to meet him, that we set up a meet a greet right away!

Gail came to meet Archie, and she was instantly smitten! They fell in love with each other right away, and it was clear that Archie had found his new mom. It made my heart soar to find someone who loved Archie so much, and who appreciated what he had been through. He didn't have an easy beginning at life, and there were a few days where I wasn't sure if he was going to make it. This ending was one that I could have only dreamed of for my boy.

Fast forward to today, and Archie has the most perfect life a cat could ask for. He and his sister Sophie are the best of friends, and he fits right into the home dynamic with the dogs and bird. Gail is so in love with Archie, and I get photo and video updates all the time! I was even sent the video of Archie INSIDE the Christmas tree!!!! Lucky that Gail thought it was hilarious, because I would have had a heart attack if he had done that at my house! haha

Archie was such a poster child for what rescue really is. He came from the concrete of a highway in Ohio, to a life of luxury, love, and fun. He'll spend every single day of his life loved beyond measure. Thank you Gail for being such an amazing mom to that little boy! <3
