Little Harrison found his way to me, when a client from work texted me the cutest photo of the most adorable little nugget in a carrier, asking for help. The nicest woman ever found Harrison in a wood pile in her backyard. She was very concerned for him, as the weather was quickly getting colder and the number of coyotes constantly lurking on her property were endless. She didn't see him surviving there much longer.
I had her bring him to me at work, and quickly discovered that the little boy had some things going on with him. He had a good inch towards the end of his tail where the hair was completely gone. He also had something called Horner's Syndrome in one eye, where one of his eyelids was drooping. Unsure of how exactly how either of these happened, it was clear that both ailments were a result of some sort of trauma. A fecal sample was sent to the lab to check for intestinal parasites, and it turns out that he also had a very uncommon, and possibly fatal (if left untreated) intestinal parasite called a Lungworm. Lucky for him, he spent a week in a crate in my bathroom getting his treatment for the Lungworm, while settling into home life. It didn't take more than an hour for this little fluffball to show me his personality, and boy did he have one!! He quickly learned how to play with toys, and realized that his belly would always get rubbed if he rolled onto his side! He wasn't interested in exploring, and all he wanted was to be picked up and loved on. He stole my heart immediately, and I quite honestly had a hard time not keeping him!
Harrison ended up landing an amazing home with someone I know! He now has two Giant Schnauzer siblings that he simply adores! He and his sister are inseparable, and his new home really was the perfect fit! The Lungworm has been treated and is gone, and the Horner's of his eye trauma has resolved over the course of a few weeks! The missing hair on his tail left him with a puff ball of hair at the tip of his tail, which his new mom adores! I'm so happy for my little man!!!
