Make a shelter, save lives!
You can always help the cause by making a feral cat shelter for the less fortunate cats outside to help get them through the harsh winters! They are not expensive, easy to make, and will literally save lives during the frigid months.

Below is a link for step by step of how to make a cat shelter. I find this kind of shelter to be one of the easiest to make!

A few important parts about making your shelter:
* Always fill shelters with straw, NOT HAY! Hay is for horses! Straw is the best insulator!
*NEVER put any kind of blankets or sheets in a shelter! They will freeze and a cat can get stuck to them once they freeze.
*Adding strips of tape around the circumference of the entrance hole to cover any jagged edges is very helpful for the cats to get in and out safely.
*Be sure to secure the lid to the bin at the end, whether is be with screws, nails, tape, or by putting something heavy on top like a few bricks!
*I like to use 2 wood pallets to put underneath wherever I am placing the shelter. Elevation is very important, so that the shelter is off of the frozen ground. Keep in mind if there is a deep snow, the entry hole to the shelter needs to be accessible to not get them locked out, or locked in!
