rescue . rehabilitate . rehome
"J u l i a"

Julia was found outside of a fire house in pretty sad shape in freezing cold weather. She was a domestic long haired cat, but her hair was so matted that she could barely stand, let alone walk. Needless to say, I immediately gave her a full haircut. She was all of 4 pounds. Her blood results came back normal, but she was hyperthyroid which is very common in older cats. She was estimated to be around 12 years old. She was such a sweet soul, and all she ever wanted was a comfy bed and a good meal. Whoever dumped her, couldn't even give her that.
I spent two months trying to get some weight on her, with zero success. She actually lost some weight, even while eating three meals a day. The scary "C" word was in the back of my mind. We tried supplementing her with a pancreatic powder in her meals to help her pancreas properly digest food. We tried different diets, different proteins, wet, dry food. We tried it all. She started having vomiting episodes, so i would give her subcutaneous fluids to keep her hydrated.

She was declining.
Since her rescue, she was staying at my animal hospital. She was having a very bad week medically, and I didn't want her to spend her last days in a cage. I wanted her to experience home life.

I brought her home.

She spent her days enjoying the heated kitchen floor, an abundance of fluffy beds, and so much love from my parents and me. She looked so happy. Deep down, I knew no matter how much I tried, Julia wouldn't have very long. We decided that if she only had one or two good days with us, that we were going to make them the absolute best days.

Day 5 I had a hard time getting her to eat and she was a little quiet. On the sixth day, she tried to greet me good morning, and just couldn't get up. Her body was too weak and it was failing. She tried so hard, and it broke my heart into a million pieces. I knew it was coming soon, and I held her on her favorite leopard bed until she took her last breath. I think she held on that night and waited for me that morning. She didn't want to be alone, and she wasn't. In her final moments, she was surrounded by my parents and me and SO much love. That little four pound love touched our hearts beyond words in the short time she had with us.

I'll never forget how she followed everyone around the kitchen. How she ALWAYS meowed back if you addressed her by name. That never failed!
You, Julia...were so loved and adored.

I'll never know her story and how she got in her situation, but I can say that she had an ending we can all only hope for.
I love and miss you so much my little girl.
Rest In Peace
